[NEWSMP] In the first half of the year, the number of drugs (including biologics) approved by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety decreased by nearly 20% from the same period last year.
According to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, a total of 187 companies received approval for 627 drugs in the first half of the year. This is a decrease of approximately 19.7% compared to the 781 drugs approved in the same period a year earlier.
Among these, seven companies received approval for more than 10 products, including Dongkook Pharmaceutical which received approval for 19 products.
Following Dongkook Pharmaceutical, which leads with 19 products, CMG Pharmaceutical is close behind with 18 products. NexpharmKorea and ILYang Pharmaceutical received approval for 12 products respectively, while Daewoong Bio, Mother's Pharmaceutical, and Eden Pharma obtained approval for 10 products respectively.
Next, Medix Pharm, Boryung, Shin Poong Pharmaceutical, Yuhan Corporation, and Hyundai Pharmaceutical received approval for 9 products respectively, followed by Dongwha Pharmaceuticals, IMCD Korea, Aprogen Biologics, and Hi Pharm with 8 products respectively.
Also, SinSin Pharmaceutical, Sinil Pharmaceutical, Ilhwa, Chong Kun Dang Pharmaceutical, and Huons received seven approvals respectively. Kyungnam Pharm, Kyung Dong Pharm, Nova M Healthcare, GC Biopharma, Daewoong Pharmaceutical, Dongkoo Bio&Pharma, Dong-A Pharmaceutical, Suheung, Sungyi Bio, Unimed Pharmaceutical, Jeil Health Science, Cho Dang Pharm, Tai Guk Pharm, KOREA Pharmaceutical, Hutecs Korea Pharmaceutical, Hanmi Pharmaceutical, and Hanpoong Pharmaceutical received approval for six products respectively.
In addition, Dongkwang Pharmaceutical, Dongsung Bio Pharm, MiraeBio Pharma, Vivozon Pharmaceutical, Samik Pharmaceutical, Arlico Pharm, Kolon Pharmaceuticals, Lilly Korea, AstraZeneca Korea, Korea United Pharm, Hanlim Pharmaceutical, Whanin Pharmaceutical obtained approval for five products respectively, making a total of 53 companies that received approval for five or more products.
Meanwhile, in the first half of last year alone, 94 linagliptin products(including combination products), 40 acetaminophen products, and 39 nicergoline products were approved.
